Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Sunday launched an awareness campaign aimed at involving citizens and other stakeholders in efforts to tackle air pollution.
The Information, Education and Communication campaign, to be implemented by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), will run till March 2027 under the theme, “Saath Nibhayein, Pradushan Ghataayein”.
“Every citizen, every institution and every stakeholder has an important role to play. Through this campaign, we want to promote awareness, encourage compliance and ensure that every stakeholder understands that sustainable development and pollution control are complementary objectives,” the Minister said.
According to an official statement, the campaign will involve citizens, educational institutions, industries, resident welfare associations, markets, construction stakeholders, bulk waste generators, farmers and vehicle owners through workshops, community programmes, sensitisation drives and field-level activities.
As part of the campaign, the DPCC will conduct district-level workshops in industrial areas on compliance with pollution-control norms, including the use of online continuous emission monitoring systems and air pollution control devices, and regulations concerning diesel generator sets.
The New Delhi Municipal Council will conduct awareness programmes involving sanitation workers, while NGO Chintan will hold training sessions on waste management for housekeeping staff.
The Transport Department will carry out awareness activities on PUC compliance, vehicular pollution, timely vehicle servicing, disposal of end-of-life vehicles, cleaner fuels and electric vehicles, the statement said.
The Delhi traffic police will also conduct a road-safety awareness programme involving around 300 students as part of the outreach.
Newspaper advertisements, hoardings, posters, radio jingles, nukkad nataks and other activities will also be used to raise awareness about sources of pollution and measures to reduce emissions.
“The initiative seeks to move beyond enforcement towards greater awareness, behavioural change and stakeholder participation,” Mr. Sirsa said.
