The Dutch have been to the ⁠World Cup final three times before, the last time in 2010, but lost on each occasion and come into this edition among the ‌leading contenders again. The Dutch starts their World Cup campaign against the Japan on June 14, 2026.

The Netherlands will have goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen and top scorer Memphis Depay both ready to play in the team’s World Cup opener. Despite the shock retirement of Wataru Endo, Japan has Takefusa Kobo, Ayase Ueda, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ritsu Doan in their squad.
