KHAMMAM: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Monday directed officials to ensure strict quality standards in development works through regular supervision and monitoring.

Inspecting the underground drainage works in Khammam city, the minister said there should be no compromise on the quality of projects executed with public funds and stressed that the works should provide long-term benefits to the people.

He said the state government was releasing hundreds of crores of rupees for infrastructure development despite financial constraints, with the objective of improving public amenities.

Tummala said elected representatives should also regularly monitor development works to ensure they are completed to the required standards.

Stating that several infrastructure projects were under way across Khammam city, he said road widening and other development works would further accelerate the city’s growth.

Emphasising the importance of sanitation, the minister said maintaining a clean environment was the responsibility of every citizen. He observed that cleanliness not only improves public health but also reduces the financial burden of medical expenses on families.

Earlier, Tummala laid the foundation stone for the construction of cement concrete roads and drains to be taken up at a cost of Rs 61.50 lakh under the Stambhadri Urban Development Authority (SUDA).
