The BBMP Pourakarmikara Sangha has written to the Central City Corporation Commissioner, seeking measures to protect sanitation workers from heat conditions in the city. The union said it plans to submit similar letters to the other four corporations.
In its letter submitted on Monday, the union said pourakarmikas are currently working from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and raised concerns over prolonged outdoor exposure during high temperatures. The union pointed out that sanitation workers deployed outdoors do not have access to rest shelters and said this could affect their health during the summer.
