Udupi: The spiritually vibrant ‘Nitya Rathotsava’ of Sri Krishna and Sri Mukhyaprana at Udupi Sri Krishna Math came to a ceremonial close on Wednesday on the occasion of Bhagirathi Janmadina and will resume again after about six months on Utthana Dwadashi during the Kartika month.
The Nitya Rathotsava is traditionally held every day from Utthana Dwadashi in the Kartika month, usually falling in November and marking the end of the monsoon season, till Bhagirathi Janmadina, observed during late May or early June, which is traditionally associated with the onset of the monsoon. The daily chariot festival is not held during the monsoon season.
As part of the concluding ceremonies, the daily rituals like Chamara Seve, Ratri Pooja and the Nitya Rathotsava were conducted with religious fervour. This was followed by Thottilu Pooje, Ashtavadhana and Malike Mangalarthi in front of the Sri Bhagirathi shrine situated beside the Madhwa Sarovara.
The ceremonies were held in the presence of Paryaya Shiroor Math seer Sri Vedavardhana Teertha Sripada and Pejawar Math seer Sri Vishwaprasanna Teertha Sripada.
