Dolly Parton died on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80, leaving behind a huge music catalog, business empire and a huge fortune. But with no children and her husband, Carl Dean, having died in 2025, questions are now being raised about who could inherit her wealth.

Parton’s nephew Bryan Seaver announced her death in an Instagram video. Seaver, who was also her head of security for more than two decades, spoke on behalf of the Parton and Owens families.

How much was Dolly Parton worth?

Parton’s net worth was reported at more than $450 million, according to a 2025 Forbes. Celebrity Net Worth estimated her net worth at the time of her death at $650 million.

Much of Dolly Parton’s fortune came not only from her music but also from a wide range of merchandise deals that grew over the last decade with the help of her longtime manager, Danny Nozell, according to Parade. These included cookbooks, baking mixes, cake pans, cosmetics, greeting cards, Peloton workouts, wine, wigs, clothing, home decor, dining products and pinball machines.

“You spend your whole life building your brand, and so you decide at a certain point, maybe it is time,” Parton told Billboard in 2020, according to Parade. “If I didn’t work anymore, [with] these kinds of projects, you get your royalties if your stuff does well. Danny calls it ‘mailbox money.’”

She gave away hundreds of millions to charity

Parton, through her Dolly Parton Foundation, Imagination Library and other initiatives, is estimated to have given away more than $600 million over her career.

Her Imagination Library sends 3.5 million free books to children every month as of 2025, and she donated $1 million toward COVID vaccine development alone.

She also gave at least $2 million to the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, which was renamed the Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital in her honor. She was also known for stepping up after disasters, including a $1 million donation to Hurricane Helene victims in 2024, per Parade.

So who inherits her fortune?

Parton and her husband, Carl Dean, who died in March 2025 at age 82, famously chose not to have children. Without children, Tennessee’s rules for estates without a will would normally pass assets to surviving siblings and other relatives.

Parton had several siblings, including brother Randy Parton and sisters Stella and Cassie Parton, all of whom have worked in the music industry. Parton’s own will has not been made public as of the date of her death, but Dean’s will may offer some clues.

Dean signed his will on January 16, 2013, naming Parton as the sole beneficiary of his estate and the trustee of the Carl Thomas Dean Trust, according to IB Times. As per, Us Weekly, the will left his estate to a trust in Parton’s name. It also gave her his personal belongings, including cars, jewelry, musical instruments, equipment and entertainment-related interests.

Dean also left a handwritten note listing which of his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews would receive certain personal items.

What is clear is that Parton spent decades building organizations such as the Imagination Library and Dollywood Foundation that can continue even after her death.
