A delegation from the World Bank met with Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg at the corporation’s headquarters on Thursday to deliberate on strategies for the development of the Visakhapatnam Economic Region (VER).
The discussion, led by World Bank representatives Jones, Abhijit Roy, and Jyoti Nayak, focused on a roadmap for long-term urban infrastructure projects.
Mr. Garg highlighted the necessity to formulate comprehensive development plans tailored to the city’s rapidly growing population and the expanding industrial and economic landscape in the North Coastal Andhra region.
During the review meeting, the Commissioner underscored the importance of creating robust civic infrastructure and implementing mega-projects that offer direct benefits to the people while meeting the future requirements of an urban centre poised for significant economic expansion.
The deliberations also covered potential areas of collaboration, including technical assistance, funding models, and the efficient management of financial resources to accelerate the city’s transition into a prominent economic region.
