أعلنت وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية أن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب أبلغ الكونغرس، اليوم، بنية إدارته إلغاء تصنيف سورية دولة راعية للإرهاب، بعد انقضاء فترة إخطار مسبق مدتها 45 يومًا.
وقالت الوزارة: إن هذه الخطوة تمثل محطة تاريخية أخرى يتخذها الرئيس ترامب لمنح الشعب السوري فرصة جديدة.
وأضافت أن رفع العقوبات عن سورية من شأنه فتح آفاق التجارة والاستثمار الدوليين، وإتاحة الفرصة لإعادة الإعمار، وفتح فصل جديد للشعب السوري، مؤكدة أن وجود سورية مستقرة وموحدة وتعيش في سلام مع نفسها وجيرانها لا يعود بالنفع على المنطقة فحسب، بل على العالم بأسره.
وأوضحت الخارجية الأمريكية أن قرار إلغاء التصنيف يأتي عقب الأمر التنفيذي الذي أصدره الرئيس ترمب في 30 يونيو 2025، والقاضي بتخفيف العقوبات عن سورية.
وأضافت أن القرار يستند كذلك إلى التغييرات الإيجابية وإجراءات مكافحة الإرهاب التي اتخذتها الحكومة السورية في ظل رئاسة أحمد الشرع، وإلى الضمانات الرسمية التي قدمها الرئيس الشرع بأن سورية لن تدعم أعمال الإرهاب الدولي في المستقبل.
ووصفت الوزارة هذا اليوم بأنه محطة مهمة في العلاقات الثنائية المتجددة بين الولايات المتحدة وسورية، وفي تاريخ الدولة السورية، مشيدة بالحكومة السورية لتبنيها مسارًا جديدًا، معربة عن تطلعها إلى تعزيز الشراكة مع سورية وشعبها.
The U.S. Department of State announced that President Donald Trump informed Congress today of his administration’s intention to remove Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, following a 45-day advance notification period.
The department stated that this step represents another historic milestone taken by President Trump to give the Syrian people a new opportunity.
It added that lifting sanctions on Syria would open up avenues for international trade and investment, provide opportunities for reconstruction, and open a new chapter for the Syrian people, emphasizing that a stable, unified Syria living in peace with itself and its neighbors benefits not only the region but the entire world.
The U.S. State Department clarified that the decision to remove the designation comes after the executive order issued by President Trump on June 30, 2025, which aimed to ease sanctions on Syria.
It also noted that the decision is based on the positive changes and counter-terrorism measures taken by the Syrian government under President Ahmad al-Shara, as well as the formal guarantees provided by President al-Shara that Syria will not support acts of international terrorism in the future.
The department described this day as an important milestone in the renewed bilateral relations between the United States and Syria, and in the history of the Syrian state, praising the Syrian government for adopting a new path, and expressing its hope to strengthen the partnership with Syria and its people.
