تعيش مدينة بورتسودان الساحلية واحدة من أشدِّ موجات الحر في تاريخها الحديث، إذ بلغت الحرارة المحسوسة نحو 50 درجة مئوية، في مشهدٍ انعكس حتى على الطيور التي لجأت إلى ظلال الأشجار هربًا من اللهيب، بينما وجد السكان أنفسهم في مواجهة حرارة لا تُطاق تتزامن مع انقطاعات طويلة للكهرباء وشحٍّ في المياه وارتفاع غير مسبوق في أسعار الثلج.
ورفعت الهيئة العامة للأرصاد الجوية حالة (الإنذار الأحمر) على ساحل البحر الأحمر حتى السادس من أغسطس، محذرةً من مخاطر الجفاف والإجهاد الحراري وضربات الشمس، وداعية إلى تجنُّب التعرض المباشر للشمس والإكثار من شرب المياه وتأجيل الأنشطة الخارجية خلال ساعات الذروة. كما عززت وزارة الصحة حالة التأهب، مؤكدةً أن الحرارة قد تتجاوز 45 درجة مئوية، ومشددة على ضرورة حماية الفئات الأكثر عرضة للخطر، والتوجه الفوري للمرافق الصحية عند ظهور أعراض ضربات الشمس.
وامتدت تداعيات الموجة الحارة إلى القطاع التعليمي، إذ علقت جامعة البحر الأحمر الدراسة مؤقتًا، فيما باشرت السلطات المحلية رشَّ الشوارع بالمياه للتخفيف من وطأة الحرارة.
وفي قلب المدينة، يصف سكان بورتسودان ما يعيشونه بأنه «ليالٍ بلا نوم»، إذ جعلت الحرارة والرطوبة النوم شبه مستحيل، بينما أدى انقطاع الكهرباء لنحو ثلاثة أيام متواصلة إلى مضاعفة الطلب على الثلج والمياه وسط نقص حاد في المعروض. وتحدثت إفادات محلية عن تزايد حالات الإجهاد الحراري، وربط بعض الأهالي بين موجة الحر وحالات وفاة، من دون إعلان رسمي يؤكد حصيلة محددة.
وتعقّدت الأزمة بعد اندلاع حريق في أحد كوابل محطة توليد كهرباء سد مروي، ما أدى إلى تأثر الإمداد الكهربائي في ولايات عدة، بينها البحر الأحمر. ورغم السيطرة على الحريق، تتواصل أعمال الصيانة لإعادة التيار، وسط اعتذار رسمي عن الانقطاع.
وتصاعدت حالة الاحتقان الشعبي في مدن الولاية، إذ أغلق محتجون في سواكن وجبيت الطرق القومية احتجاجًا على الانقطاعات الطويلة للكهرباء، بينما يقول سكان بورتسودان إن برمجة الانقطاع تصل إلى نحو 18 ساعة يوميًا، ما جعل الحياة اليومية أكثر مشقة في ظل حرارة قياسية ورطوبة خانقة.
ويرى مراقبون أن ما تشهده بورتسودان يعكس تداخلًا بين الضغوط المناخية والتحديات الخدمية، إذ تزيد موجات الحر الشديدة الطلب على الكهرباء والمياه في وقت تعاني فيه البنية التحتية من ضغوط متصاعدة، لتجد المدينة نفسها أمام اختبار صيفي قاسٍ، يترقب السكان انحساره وعودة الخدمات إلى الاستقرار.

The Ministry of Health has also heightened its state of readiness, confirming that temperatures may exceed 45 degrees Celsius, and emphasizing the need to protect the most vulnerable groups and to seek immediate medical attention upon the appearance of sunstroke symptoms.
The repercussions of the heatwave have extended to the educational sector, as the Red Sea University has temporarily suspended classes, while local authorities have begun spraying the streets with water to alleviate the heat.
In the heart of the city, residents of Port Sudan describe their experience as “sleepless nights,” as the heat and humidity have made sleep nearly impossible. Meanwhile, a power outage lasting nearly three consecutive days has doubled the demand for ice and water amid a severe supply shortage. Local reports have indicated an increase in cases of heat stress, with some residents linking the heatwave to fatalities, although there has been no official announcement confirming a specific toll.
The crisis has worsened following a fire that broke out in one of the cables at the Merowe Dam power station, affecting the electricity supply in several states, including the Red Sea. Although the fire has been brought under control, maintenance work continues to restore power, accompanied by an official apology for the outage.
The public discontent has escalated in the state’s cities, as protesters in Sawakin and Juba have blocked national roads in protest against the long power outages. Meanwhile, residents of Port Sudan report that the power cut schedule reaches about 18 hours daily, making daily life increasingly difficult amid record heat and stifling humidity.
Observers believe that what Port Sudan is experiencing reflects an intersection between climatic pressures and service challenges, as severe heatwaves increase the demand for electricity and water at a time when infrastructure is under rising pressure, leaving the city facing a harsh summer test, with residents awaiting its retreat and the return of stability in services.
