وسط توقعات بارتفاع حصيلة الضحايا، قتل 20 فلسطينياً بينهم 5 أطفال اليوم (الأربعاء) في انهيار مبنى سكني متصدع في غرب مدينة غزة.
وقال المتحدث باسم الدفاع المدني في القطاع محمود بصل، إن حصيلة الضحايا ارتفعت إلى 20 قتيلاً جميعهم قضوا في كارثة انهيار مبنى عمارة السعادة بينهم 5 أطفال، مشيراً إلى أن عمليات الإنقاذ والبحث مستمرة.
وأضاف: فرق الإنقاذ تمكنت من انتشال 16 مصاباً، بينما لا يزال العشرات تحت الأنقاض، مشيراً إلى أن شهادات أقارب المفقودين تحت الأنقاض تؤكد أن المبنى كان يسكنه أكثر من مئة فلسطيني من بينهم نحو خمسين طفلاً، وما زالوا مفقودين تحت الأنقاض.
وأشار إلى أن البناية كانت متصدعة بعدما أصيبت بأضرار نتيجة لقصف إسرائيلي عدة مرات خلال الحرب، موضحاً أن كافة الطوابق في البناية تعرضت لقصف جوي إسرائيلي عدة مرات في عام 2024، وأيضاً في شهر مارس العام الماضي، ما أدى لإلحاق أضرار جسيمة في كافة الشقق السكنية بالمبنى.
وأفاد بصل أن الدفاع المدني حذر سكان البناية من خطر الانهيار، لكن لا خيار لديهم في ظل عدم توفر خيام أو مأوى رغم المخاطر. وأوضح أن المبنى انهار قرابة الساعة الثانية فجراً، واصفاً الحادثة بـ «المأساة الجديدة»، محملاً الجيش الإسرائيلي المسؤولية الذي قال إنه كان دمر معظم المنازل والعمارات السكنية المحيطة بالمبنى المنهار، ما أدى إلى أضرار وتصدع السقوف والجدران.
وأرجع أسباب التأخر في الإنقاذ إلى «عدم وجود معدات وأدوات». وحذر المتحدث باسم الدفاع المدني الفلسطيني من انهيار المزيد من المباني، مؤكداً أن نحو ألفي منزل ومبنى سكني يسكنها نازحون أصيبوا بأضرار خلال الحرب في قطاع غزة، وهي مهددة بالانهيار، خصوصاً مع اقتراب فصل الشتاء.
وشارك عشرات المتطوعين إلى جانب طواقم الدفاع المدني وبلدية غزة التي تفتقر للمعدات والأدوات اللازمة، في عمليات البحث لإنقاذ المفقودين.
Amid expectations of a rising death toll, 20 Palestinians, including 5 children, were killed today (Wednesday) in the collapse of a dilapidated residential building in the west of Gaza City.
The spokesperson for the Civil Defense in the sector, Mahmoud Bessal, stated that the death toll has risen to 20, all of whom perished in the disaster of the collapse of the Al-Saada building, including 5 children, noting that rescue and search operations are ongoing.
He added: Rescue teams managed to retrieve 16 injured individuals, while dozens remain trapped under the rubble, pointing out that testimonies from relatives of the missing confirm that the building housed more than a hundred Palestinians, including about fifty children, who are still missing under the debris.
He indicated that the building was dilapidated after sustaining damage from Israeli shelling several times during the war, explaining that all floors of the building were subjected to Israeli airstrikes multiple times in 2024, as well as in March of last year, which caused severe damage to all residential apartments in the building.
Bessal reported that the Civil Defense had warned the residents of the building about the risk of collapse, but they had no option due to the lack of tents or shelter despite the dangers. He clarified that the building collapsed around two in the morning, describing the incident as a “new tragedy,” holding the Israeli army responsible, which he said had destroyed most of the homes and residential buildings surrounding the collapsed structure, leading to damage and cracks in the ceilings and walls.
He attributed the delay in rescue efforts to “the lack of equipment and tools.” The spokesperson for the Palestinian Civil Defense warned of the potential collapse of more buildings, confirming that about two thousand homes and residential buildings inhabited by displaced persons have been damaged during the war in the Gaza Strip and are at risk of collapse, especially with the approach of winter.
Dozens of volunteers participated alongside Civil Defense crews and the Gaza Municipality, which lacks the necessary equipment and tools, in the search operations to rescue the missing.
