Washington: US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to commercial traffic, despite continuing exchanges between the United States and Iran that have raised concerns about navigation safety in one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
Trump made the remarks during an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press.
The comments come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with ongoing attacks and counterattacks fuelling concerns over the security of maritime traffic through the strategic waterway, a critical route for global energy supplies.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes, carrying a significant share of global oil and gas exports.
