KARIMNAGAR: Several rural girls and Journalism students are excelling in higher studies.
Katla Kavya, a student of Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication, has bagged the late Major SM Hussain and Amina Begum Gold Medal. She had secured the highest aggregate marks in the first division in her first attempt at the Osmania University examinations for the academic year 2024-25.
Kavya was the third student to win a gold medal from the Department of Journalism at Osmania University Post Graduate College, Siddipet since the course began in 2013. She will receive the gold medal from Governor Shiva Pratap Shukla at the 85th Convocation in Tagore Auditorium on September 8.
Kavya hails from Anantaram village in Jagityal district. She studied in government-run institutions from primary school to higher education. Her father, Katla Raju, is a two-wheeler mechanic and her mother, Jayasri, is a homemaker. She is currently working as a human resources professional at a private financial company in Karimnagar.
Another girl, Gollapalli Chamanthi from Komuravelli village in Siddipet district, secured the first gold medal from the Department of Journalism in 2017.
She won the Yudhvir Memorial Gold Medal for securing the highest marks in the Development and Rural Communication paper. Chamanthi studied at the Zilla Parishad High School, Komuravelli, completed Intermediate and Degree at Maharshi Junior and Degree College in Cheryal, and did her MA Journalism at University PG College, Siddipet.
Her father, GollapalliKistaiah, is a former sarpanch now engaged in agriculture, while her mother, Bhagyalakshmi, is a homemaker.
Chamanthi interned with Nava Telangana daily and later worked with a YouTube channel for two years.
Kadasi Chiruhasini bagged the Yudhvir Memorial Gold Medal for the highest marks in the same paper in 2023. Born in Rajura mandal of Chandrapur district in Maharashtra, Chiruhasini shifted to Peddapalli district after marrying Pranay, a lawyer. She studied at Stella Maris High School, Rajura, where she won the best debater award thrice.
She completed Intermediate at Trinity College, Karimnagar, and joined a B.Tech course but discontinued it after her father’s death and went into depression. Later, she joined the MA journalism course at University PG College, Siddipet and completed the course.
