Kolkata: Dum Dum Trinamul Congress MP Sougata Roy on Thursday urged union home minister Amit Shah in a letter to provide him “adequate security” cover after facing a protest by BJP workers led by two MLAs last month outside NSCBI Airport.

In the letter, Mr Roy wrote that 18 August 18 2026, he “was subjected to an attack by a group of approximately 50 persons, allegedly acting at the encouragement of two local BJP MLAs, Shri Arijit Bakshi and Shri Sourav Sikdar” on August 18 when he went to attend a meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee as its chairman.

He pointed out, “The unruly group surrounded my vehicle, shouted abusive slogans and attempted to physically attack me. They demanded that I resign from the Chairmanship of the Airport Advisory Committee. I narrowly escaped the assault and, despite the circumstances, proceeded to attend the meeting.”

Mr Roy argued, “During the meeting, the two MLAs reportedly defended the unruly group and stated that they would not permit me to speak. While leaving the meeting, the same group again attempted to attack me. I was protected from physical harm due to the timely intervention of the local police and CISF personnel.”

He mentioned, “I have lodged an FIR at the NSCBI police station and have also brought the matter to the notice of the Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha, requesting reference of the incident to the Committee of Privileges.”

The TMC MP added, “This is the second such attack on me in my constituency. I therefore request you to kindly provide me adequate security to enable me to safely discharge my parliamentary responsibilities and function effectively in my constituency.”
