Dubai: Armenian authorities have extended their temporary visa exemption programme for eligible travellers from Gulf countries and selected international residency holders for an additional year, with the measure now remaining in effect until July 1, 2027.
The move is aimed at facilitating travel, tourism and people-to-people exchanges between Armenia and Gulf countries by allowing eligible visitors to enter the country without obtaining a prior visa.
Who is eligible?
Under the decision, residents of eligible countries holding a valid residence permit issued by:
- Any European Union country
- Any Schengen Area country
can enter Armenia without a visa between July 1, 2026 and July 1, 2027.
The residence permit must remain valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Armenia.
Stay of up to 180 days
Eligible travellers may stay in Armenia for up to 180 days within any one-year period without the need for a visa.
Travellers must present proof of residency in the form of:
- A valid residence permit card, or
- An official residency sticker affixed to their passport.
Simplified travel procedures
The extension removes the need for eligible visitors to apply for a visa before travelling, reducing paperwork, application procedures and associated fees.
The decision comes during the summer travel season, when Armenia remains a popular destination for visitors from the Gulf region due to its temperate climate, natural landscapes, historical sites and proximity to GCC countries.
Strengthening tourism ties
Lucine Gevorgyan, Head of the Tourism Committee at the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia, said: “By extending this decision, we confirm our continued openness to receiving more visitors and strengthening exchanges between our peoples. We look forward to welcoming more guests from the Gulf countries to discover Armenia and its diverse experiences.”
